Does Bar Insurance Cover a Fight or a Shooting?

Fights, bouncer injuries and shootings all fall under what insurers call assault and battery. In plain terms, someone intentionally hurt someone else at your place.

Policies written for bars and nightclubs usually handle that one of three ways.

  • Excluded. The policy pays nothing for any claim that grows out of an assault or battery.

  • Sub-limited. It is covered, but with its own smaller cap.

  • Full limit. It is covered up to the same limit as everything else. This is getting rare and expensive.
